How to config Whack a Gecko Contest EN
HOOZ – WHACK A GECKO CONTEST BOARD
User Guide
The HOOZ Whack a Gecko Contest Board allows you to easily organize automated contests with your Whack a Gecko game, disponible at GeckoGames or on Marketplace.
The board automatically records player scores, manages the leaderboard, and can pay the winners when the contest ends.
No configuration notecard is required. Everything is managed directly from the owner menu.
1. Installation
Rez the Contest Board on your land, near your Whack a Gecko game.
When installing the board, accept the Debit Permission requested by Second Life. This permission is required for the board to automatically pay the winners.
Once installed, click the board to open the configuration menu.
2. Setting Up a Contest
Configure your contest before starting it. As long as the contest is not active, you can freely change its settings.
When everything is ready, click READY to start the contest.
Once the contest has started, the main settings are locked to prevent changes during an active competition.
3. Menu Buttons
READY
Starts the contest using the current settings.
The timer starts immediately and the board begins recording scores sent by Whack a Gecko.
NAME
Sets the name displayed on the board.
You can use the name of your location, club, event, or any other name you want.
Example: HOOZ
PRIZE
Sets the initial prize amount in L$ that will be shared between the winners.
For example:
PRIZE: 100
will create an initial prize pot of 100 L$.
This amount can increase during the contest thanks to the ADD2POT feature.
ADD2POT
Players and visitors can also add L$ to the contest prize pot.
To contribute, simply click ADD2POT, then pay the amount you wish to add.
The contribution is automatically added to the total prize.
For example:
Initial Prize: 100 L$
Amount Added: 50 L$
New Prize: 150 L$
This allows players, visitors, or sponsors to contribute directly to the contest and increase the rewards while the competition is running.
The new total prize will automatically be taken into account when the winners are paid.
PERCENT
Sets how the total Prize will be distributed between the Top 5 positions.
Enter 5 percentages. The total must equal 100.
Example:
50,20,15,10,5
With a 100 L$ Prize:
1st: 50 L$
2nd: 20 L$
3rd: 15 L$
4th: 10 L$
5th: 5 L$
If you want only the first-place player to receive a prize, use:
100,0,0,0,0
MODE
Selects how player scores are used to build the leaderboard.
SCORE
Each score is treated separately. The same player can therefore appear multiple times on the leaderboard.
UNIQUE
Each player can appear only once. Only their best score is used for the leaderboard.
PROGRESSIVE
All scores achieved by the same player are added together. Their ranking is based on the total score accumulated throughout the contest.
TIME LIMIT
Sets the duration of the contest.
You can choose:
MINUTES
HOURS
DAYS
Then simply enter the desired duration.
For example:
DAYS → 7
will create a contest lasting 7 days.
AFTER
Determines what the board should do when the contest timer naturally reaches zero.
RESTART
The winners are paid, the scores are cleared, and a new contest automatically starts using the same configuration.
STOP
The winners are paid and the contest stops. The board then waits for a new contest to be started.
STATUS
Displays the current status of the Contest Board and its main settings.
Opens the second menu page, giving access to additional functions including WEB LISTING and PAY NOW.
WEB LISTING
Controls whether your contest appears on the public HOOZ Contest Network.
WEB ON
Your contest appears on the HOOZ website with information about your location and a link allowing players to teleport directly to your land.
WEB OFF
Your contest does not appear on the public listing.
Using WEB ON is recommended. It gives your location additional visibility on the HOOZ website and allows players looking for contests to discover your event and teleport directly to it.
It is also a simple way to generate more traffic to your land.
Web Listing is completely optional. The Contest Board will continue to work normally in Second Life with WEB OFF, or if the website is temporarily unavailable.
PAY NOW
Allows you to end the contest immediately without waiting for the timer to expire and pay the winners according to the current leaderboard.
A confirmation is required to prevent accidental payments.
Once PAY NOW is confirmed, the contest ends and the current winners are paid according to the configured percentages.
Important: PAY NOW never triggers an automatic restart, even when AFTER is set to RESTART.
After payment, the board returns to READY status. You can then change the configuration and prepare a new contest.
CLOSE
Simply closes the menu.
4. During the Contest
Once READY has been activated, the contest runs automatically.
Players simply play Whack a Gecko as usual. Their scores are sent to the Contest Board and the leaderboard updates as games are played.
The leaderboard behavior depends on the selected mode: SCORE, UNIQUE, or PROGRESSIVE.
During the contest, players and visitors can also use ADD2POT to increase the Prize. The total prize amount will therefore grow as contributions are received.
When the timer reaches zero, the board determines the winners according to the current leaderboard and distributes the total Prize, including any contributions received through ADD2POT, according to the configured percentages.
With AFTER = RESTART, a new competition automatically begins.
With AFTER = STOP, the contest stops after payment and waits for a new contest to be started.
5. Quick Example
You want to organize a 7-day contest with an initial Prize of 500 L$ and reward the top three players.
Configure:
NAME: HOOZ
PRIZE: 500
PERCENT: 50,30,20,0,0
MODE: UNIQUE
TIME LIMIT: 7 DAYS
AFTER: RESTART
WEB LISTING: ON
Then click READY.
The contest starts and runs for 7 days. In UNIQUE mode, each player appears only once on the leaderboard with their best score.
If nobody adds money to the pot, the 500 L$ will be distributed as follows:
1st: 250 L$
2nd: 150 L$
3rd: 100 L$
Now imagine that several visitors use ADD2POT and contribute a total of 200 L$ during the contest.
The Prize increases from:
500 L$ → 700 L$
The final payout becomes:
1st: 350 L$
2nd: 210 L$
3rd: 140 L$
Since AFTER is set to RESTART, a new 7-day contest will automatically begin using the same configuration.
Important
The HOOZ Contest Board is specifically designed for Whack a Gecko.
Make sure the board always has the required Debit Permission so it can automatically pay the winners.
